Master Huang Sizzling House is a name some Adelaide food lovers may recognise from its time in the Adelaide Central Market food court, where the family-run eatery built a following for its sizzling plates and Taiwanese flavours.
Now, the team has packed up and moved to a new home inside Castle Plaza in Edwardstown, giving them more room to expand the menu and introduce Adelaide diners to even more dishes inspired by Taiwan.
The small family-run business, which is also the sister restaurant of Nan Yuan, is still best known for its sizzling plates, but its new location has opened the door to a broader menu.
Queenie from the Master Huang Sizzling House team said founder Master Huang grew up in Taiwan before making Adelaide home and starting a family here.
His aim was to share the flavours he knew and loved, including dishes inspired by Taiwan’s much-loved night-market food culture.
Among the sizzling plates are Taiwanese favourites including slow-braised beef noodle soup, braised pork rice and Taiwanese night-market-style sizzling steak served with noodles and egg.
“You can even find Taiwanese-style soy milk tea and black tea, the kind of everyday drinks that are very familiar back home,” Queenie said.
“We recently ran a small promotion within Adelaide’s migrant community and were honestly overwhelmed by the response.”
While some diners recognise dishes from travels through Taiwan and others are discovering the flavours for the first time, the response from Adelaide’s Taiwanese community has been particularly meaningful.
“We’ve had Taiwanese customers tell us the flavours remind them of home,” Queenie said.
“It gave us a lot of confidence in what we’re serving and made us want to share this side of Master Huang with more people.”
With its move to Castle Plaza, Master Huang Sizzling House is giving both long-time customers and newcomers another place to explore Taiwanese comfort food, from sizzling night-market-inspired plates to the everyday dishes and drinks Master Huang grew up with.
