Qatar Airways has been named the World’s Best Airline for 2025 at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. The results were announced on 17 June at the Paris Air Show in a ceremony held at Le Bourget Airport’s Air and Space Museum.
Qatar Airways has now claimed the award for two consecutive years, after previous victor Singapore Airlines ranked first in 2023. This marks the ninth time Qatar Airways has taken out top spot since the awards began in 1999. The airline also won World’s Best Business Class, Best Business Class Lounge, and Best Airline in the Middle East.
Singapore Airlines came in second overall, with Cathay Pacific taking third place. Singapore Airlines was also awarded World’s Best Cabin Crew and World’s Best First Class. Cathay Pacific won for Best Inflight Entertainment and Best Economy Class. This also comes soon after Cathay Pacific announced it would resume its direct flight service from Hong Kong to Adelaide, starting from 11 November 2025.
But where did the Aussie airlines land in the rankings?
Qantas was named Best Airline in Australia/Pacific and ranked 14th in the world after ranking 24th last year. In May, the airline unveiled its first Domestic Business Lounge at Adelaide Airport.
In response to the award, Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said, “To be recognised as the Best Airline Australia & Pacific reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering for our customers and is testament to the exceptional work of our people.”
“I want to sincerely thank our incredible team of more than 29,000 people around the world, who bring such passion and pride to the work they do every single day. This award belongs to them.”
Virgin Australia also won Best Regional Airline and Best Airline Staff Service for the Australia/Pacific region.
Virgin Australia ranked 34th in the list, with Jetstar coming in at 88th.
The awards are based on a customer survey run from September 2024 to May 2025, covering more than 325 airlines. Skytrax runs the survey independently with no fees for airlines to enter or use the award logos.
