All the events happening in Adelaide for the King’s Coronation

Here’s all the best Coronation events happening across Adelaide on May 5th and 6th for King Charles III.

This Saturday, a significant moment in history is taking place, and while most of the action is taking place overseas, there are plenty of events commemorating the Coronation of King Charles III right here in Adelaide.

The first British coronation in 70 years will have an entire day of coverage happening on TV for those wanting to watch from home, but if you’re wanting to get out and about, we’ve put together a guide of some great events happening this weekend.

For those watching from home, or from one of the screening locations, here’s a brief run down on the events of the day:

Official Events

Lunch on the Lawns at Government House

On Friday the 5th of May, the grounds of Government House will be open for a special Lunch on the Lawns where members of the public can inscribe messages of congratulations to Their Majesties in books provided. These will then be bound and sent to Buckingham Palace.

Lunch on the Lawns will not only feature performances by the 10th/27th Battalion, Royal South Australian Regiment Band but also members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and the State Opera of South Australia.

Families are invited to head along from 12-2pm, and bring their picnic blankets and lunch to enjoy the festivities.

On Coronation Day, Saturday the 6th of May until the evening of Wednesday 10 May, Government House will light up in royal purple from sunset until 10pm.

High Tea Experiences

Kings Coronation High Tea at the Hilton

To celebrate King Charles III’s coronation, the Hilton is hosting a special high tea fit for royalty. Featuring the finest scones, clotted cream & jam, savouries, coronation sandwiches, cakes and pastries.

This high tea will be accompanied by an exquisite Dilmah tea selection along with champagne specials and barista coffee available for purchase on the day.

Kings Coronation High Tea at Stamford Grand Adelaide

Experience High Tea Fit for a King, as Stamford celebrates King Charles III’s Coronation for this once in a lifetime event.

This special edition High Tea will feature a selection of High Tea classics, with a very royal touch. Celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation in royal style with a high tea by the sea featuring a delectable coronation sandwich.

Sip on a warm cup of tea of your choice and indulge in an assortment of sweet and savory treats, such as scones with clotted cream and jam, sandwiches, and miniature pastries.

The Queen of Adelaide High Tea

Ring in the Coronation of King Charles III with this regal afternoon tea at The Queen of Adelaide.

Celebrate this once in a lifetime event with an array of lavish treats, delightful sandwiches, canapes, petit fours, and of course, scones with indulgent lashings of cream and jam.

For a little bit of royal decadence, you’ll also find King Charles’ favourite tea and cake, Darjeeling and fruitcake.

Viewing at The Grand Bar

Live streaming with the City of Tea Tree Gully

Join the City of Tea Tree Gully for a live-stream of the Coronation of King Charles III at the library. There is set to be a large screen set up in the relaxed reading area and light refreshments will be provided throughout the streaming.

Live streaming with the City of Playford

You don’t need an invitation to Westminster Abbey to take part in the royal celebrations, the City of Playford has got it covered.

Mark the coronation in British fashion with sandwiches, cake, and a big helping of community spirit.

This family-friendly screening promises pre-streaming activities from 7pm and light refreshments before watching the incredible global event unfold on the big screen at 7:30pm.

Your free ticket includes sandwiches, cake, popcorn, tea, coffee, music from the official ‘Coronation Spotify Play List’, and crafts for the kids.

Other Events

Coronation Day Parkrun 

The North Adelaide Nantu Wama park run is a timed 5k run every Saturday, and is free for everyone to join in on the fun.

The organisers of this Saturday’s special Royal run will appoint a King and Queen of the day to mark the coronation and joggers are encouraged to dress up.

King’s Coronation Day at John Brown Loyal GRSC Adelaide

John Brown Loyal GRSC Adelaide is hosting prize bingo and a special royal quiz. This will be followed by a buffet at around 6pm, then live coverage of the King’s Coronation at around 7:30pm.

The Australian Monarchist League will host a four-course dinner on coronation eve for a decedant, Royal occcasion.
