Adelaide is in for a wintry start to the week, with cloudy skies and the chance of a few showers today before conditions gradually settle and warm heading into the weekend. While the first half of the week looks fairly quiet across the city, a wetter and windier change is set to arrive by Friday and linger through Sunday.
For Monday, Adelaide can expect a mostly cloudy day with a medium chance of showers, although they’re more likely this morning and should ease as the day goes on. The city is only forecast to reach 15 degrees, with similar tops across Elizabeth, Glenelg and Noarlunga, and a slightly cooler 14 degrees for Mount Barker. South to southwesterly winds will keep things feeling brisk before easing later tonight.
Tuesday stays on the cool side, with a cloudy forecast, a slight chance of a morning shower, and a top of 14 degrees after a chilly overnight low of 7. Light winds should make for a calmer day, but it’ll still feel like deep winter across the metro area.
Wednesday follows a similar pattern, with another cloudy day, just a slight chance of a passing shower, and temperatures ranging from 6 to 15 degrees.
A welcome break arrives on Thursday, with sunshine returning to Adelaide and temperatures lifting a little. After a low of 8, the city is set to reach 17 degrees under sunny skies and light winds, making it the pick of the weekdays for anyone planning to get outdoors.
By Friday, cloud will increase again, with a mostly sunny morning giving way to a medium chance of showers later in the day. Northerly to northeasterly winds will also strengthen through the morning, helping push the temperature up to a milder 20 degrees after a low of 9.
Saturday is expected to be cloudy with a very high chance of showers and possible rainfall of 4 to 15mm. Temperatures will range from 10 to 17 degrees, while north to northwesterly winds freshen to 25 to 35 km/h.
Those windy, wet conditions are likely to continue into Sunday, with showers again very likely, a top of 15 degrees, and strong northwesterly winds turning westerly during the morning.
Across South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a cold front moving across the state’s southeast, followed by a high pressure system settling into the Bight and stretching a ridge across the state through the week. That means cool mornings, patchy frost and fog in some inland areas, and mostly dry conditions for many districts through to Thursday. The southeast is the most likely spot to see showers early in the week, while coastal parts and the far west may also pick up the odd light fall. Maximum temperatures are expected to stay near to below average at first, before edging closer to or above average later in the week, especially in western parts of the state.
