At 104 years old, Jack has his sights set on an extraordinary new milestone, and he is only 108 turtles away from achieving it.
The much-loved local figure has built a collection of 892 turtle collectables after beginning his unusual hobby around his 100th birthday.
Cassi from The Port Adelaide Emporium told Glam Adelaide that Jack’s collection began when he first heard the word “chelonian” and thought it was a lovely idea to collect them.
Since then, he has welcomed turtles of all shapes, sizes and styles into his collection.
His latest milestone was shared by The Port Adelaide Emporium, where Jack has become a familiar and welcome face.
The team is now calling on the community to help him find the final 108 turtles needed to reach 1,000.
“We are now providing a drop-off point for turtles here at The Port Adelaide Emporium and also at our sister business next door, Bluetongue Auctions,” Cassi said.
“People can donate turtles here to get Jack to the 1,000 turtles that we all want to see him achieve.”
The Emporium and Bluetongue Auctions have helped supply Jack’s growing “turtle habit” over the years and are now leading the mission to help him achieve his goal.
The Emporium said it was always a treat when Jack visited and intends to remain part of his journey until he reaches the milestone.
With 892 turtles already gathered and the local community now invited to contribute, Jack’s collection may soon pass the incredible 1,000 mark.
