A new ice cream spot has quietly opened inside Station Arcade, but Apollo Scoops is aiming to become much more than somewhere to grab a cone on a hot day.
The newcomer at Shop 2, Station Arcade, is part of a broader push to breathe new life into the Hindley Street thoroughfare, with more food venues, extra seating and late-night trading all planned as the precinct evolves.
For now, Apollo Scoops is serving up premium ice cream, creamy milkshakes, and made-to-order waffles, with flavours including chocolate obsession, peanut butter brownie, and rock salt caramel. 50 cent toppings are available across the range, with scoops priced at $5.90 for a single, $8.90 for a double and $11.90 for a triple.
While Apollo Scoops currently trades during the day, the team has plans to extend its opening hours into the evening. Store manager Chloe Martin said that they are keen to capture trade from the steady stream of club goers and late-night visitors passing through the Station Arcade, which serves as a pedestrian link between Hindley Street and the Adelaide Railway Station.
“We also want to keep it open later so it becomes more lively again, because currently, when you walk through, there’s not much going on in the arcade,” Chloe told Glam Adelaide.
“There are a few cafés that close by 2.30pm or 3pm, but that’s about it.”
She also said that there are already plans to expand the menu, with $7 hot dogs set to join the line-up.
“It’s also about affordable prices,” Chloe said.
“It’s a snack to have while you’re out on Hindley Street. You can pop in and get a cheap hot dog or a shake.”
The vision for the venue extends to the broader Station Arcade, with various new activations including a bakery and restaurant already being teased on Station Arcade’s Instagram.
Chloe said that renovations are underway for the new venues, with the owner working to reshape the once-busy arcade into a more active hospitality destination.
“We’re slowly developing it into a little area where, instead of just walking past, you can come and sit down,” she said.
“The owner wants to bring the arcade back to life.”
