Adelaide is in for a cool, showery stretch over the rest of the week, with several bands of cloud and passing rain keeping daytime temperatures in the mid-teens right through to Tuesday.
Today, Adelaide is looking at a partly cloudy sky with showers developing late in the morning and into the afternoon. Temperatures are only expected to reach 15 degrees in the city, with west to northwesterly winds turning southwesterly later in the day, adding a sharper chill by evening. Thursday stays on the unsettled side, with a high chance of showers through the morning and afternoon and a colder top of 14 degrees. Winds will shift south to southwesterly before easing later, keeping that wintry feel in place across the suburbs.
Friday doesn’t offer much of a warm-up, though the rain risk does ease a little. It will be cloudy with a medium chance of a shower and a top of 15 degrees, after a brisk start of 6 degrees in the city. By Saturday, showers become more likely again, especially through the morning and afternoon, under cloudy skies and another maximum of 15 degrees. Light winds later in the day may make it feel a little calmer, but it will still be a grey winter’s day across Adelaide.
Sunday brings more of the same pattern, with cloud hanging around and a medium chance of showers as northwesterly winds pick up during the day. The temperature is again set to peak at 15 degrees. Early next week, the city edges up slightly, with Monday and Tuesday both forecast to reach 16 degrees. Showers remain possible on both days, with Monday seeing northerly winds turning northwesterly and Tuesday bringing a west to northwesterly flow before a southwesterly change. In short, Adelaide’s next seven days look cool, fairly damp at times, and consistently wintry rather than wild.
Across regional South Australia, a series of weak cold fronts is brushing the south of the state today before a ridge of high pressure builds from the west later on Wednesday. That means the wettest conditions are mostly focused in southern and coastal districts, while much of the inland stays dry. Agricultural districts can expect isolated showers today, contracting mostly to coastal areas by evening, while the southeast coast may also see isolated thunderstorms during the morning. Areas of morning fog are possible in the state’s southwest today, with patchy fog returning east of the ranges on Saturday.
The southeast stays the most active part of the state through Thursday to Saturday, with isolated showers continuing and even a risk of small hail about the far southeast coast on Thursday morning. Elsewhere, rainfall totals are expected to remain fairly light, generally less than 5mm across southern agricultural areas and less than 2mm across northern agricultural areas. The Mt Lofty Ranges and southeast coast have the best chance of seeing isolated falls of 5 to 10mm by the end of Saturday. Frost is also on the cards early Friday through parts of the Mid North and Flinders Districts, so inland residents can expect some very cold morning starts even with daytime temperatures staying below average. Along metropolitan waters, seas are relatively modest, but conditions will still be changeable enough for boaters to pay attention to wind shifts.
