Adelaide Hills

An Adelaide Hills winery restaurant has been named among the world’s best by Wine Enthusiast

A Hills venue has been recognised by Wine Enthusiast as one of the world’s top winery restaurants, placing the Adelaide Hills destination among an elite group of global dining experiences.

While the drive from Adelaide only takes about half an hour, arriving at The Lane Vineyard feels like stepping into another world. Surrounded by rolling hills and rows of vines, the Adelaide Hills estate has now been recognised among the world’s very best winery restaurants, earning a place on Wine Enthusiast’s global list.

The Adelaide Hills estate is one of only two Australian winery restaurants featured on the international list, which celebrates 57 destinations around the world where exceptional dining perfectly complements the character and craftsmanship of the surrounding vineyard.

The recognition is a proud and exciting moment for a venue that has spent nearly two decades redefining what a winery restaurant can be.

“We are thrilled to be recognised by The Wine Enthusiast as one of only two Australian winery restaurants on this global list,” shared The Lane Chief Executive Officer and Vigneron Jared Stringer. “The Lane has been at the forefront of fine dining in the Adelaide Hills since we first opened the restaurant in 2008.”

Located in Hahndorf, The Lane offers visitors the rare opportunity to feel completely removed from the city without travelling far. That sense of place is exactly what Wine Enthusiast highlighted in its global list, describing the world’s best winery restaurants as venues that “mirror the winery itself” by being deeply connected to their surroundings and creating experiences that tell the story of the region.

The Lane was recognised for its ability to showcase the Adelaide Hills through its cuisine and wines, with the restaurant’s tasting menu celebrating seasonal local ingredients alongside the estate’s single-vineyard releases. Onsite, there’s a working vineyard, award-winning wines and a menu built around South Australian produce.

“Only 25 minutes out of Adelaide, you instantly feel a world away, with endless views across the rolling hills,” shared Jared. “Couple that with an incredible tasting menu highlighting some of the best produce in South Australia, and our award-winning single-vineyard wines, and you have an unforgettable dining experience.”

The menu changes with the seasons but remains grounded in ingredients connected to the estate and the wider region. “Highlights on our menu include our estate-raised Black Suffolk Lamb and our ‘vintage’ sorbet, which is made from the freshly pressed juice of our estate Shiraz,” shared Jared.

For those looking to experience The Lane beyond a traditional restaurant booking, the estate offers a range of immersive food and wine experiences.

“Must-try experiences include The Chef’s Table, for those who want a truly bespoke food and wine experience like no other. And our Luxury Panorama Picnic, set on the highest, most secluded part of our estate, is the ultimate indulgence for couples looking for their next day out.”

Wine Enthusiast’s list features winery restaurants from some of the world’s most renowned wine regions, highlighting destinations where dining is not simply an addition to a cellar door visit, but a reason to travel. For The Lane, the global recognition is another milestone in a journey that began in 2008 and has seen the Adelaide Hills estate become synonymous with refined regional dining.

With its combination of estate-grown wines and a menu that celebrates South Australia’s finest produce, The Lane continues to prove that some of the world’s most memorable dining experiences can be found among the vines just beyond Adelaide.
