Adelaide weather forecast for Wednesday July 8th and the days ahead

Happy Wednesday! Here’s the weather for July 6th and a look at what’s to come for the rest of the week.

Adelaide is in for a fairly calm stretch of weather leading up to the weekend, with cool winter days and light winds before a wetter change moves across the city from Saturday.

For today, Adelaide is expected to stay partly cloudy with a top of 17 degrees. Winds will shift between easterly and northeasterly through the day, but there’s little sign of rain in the metro area. Thursday follows a similar pattern, with a mostly sunny outlook after a cold start and temperatures again reaching 17 degrees. Light winds and clear spells should make for a crisp but pleasant day by July standards.

Friday continues the run of relatively mild and stable conditions, with a mostly sunny morning before cloud starts to build later in the day. There’s only a slight chance of a shower by evening, but it’s the first sign that a change is on the way. Adelaide’s temperature is forecast to hold at 17 degrees, with light winds keeping things fairly comfortable through most of the day.

That change arrives on Saturday, when cloud cover thickens and showers become much more likely, especially through the afternoon and evening. Northerly winds are expected to pick up strongly before swinging westerly later in the day, bringing a colder, blustery finish to the weekend opener. The city is only expected to reach 15 degrees, with between 2 and 8mm of rain possible, so it may be worth keeping indoor plans handy.

Sunday looks set to stay grey and damp, with a high chance of showers and westerly winds keeping conditions cool. Another top of 15 degrees is forecast, so the weekend will end with that unmistakable winter feel. Showers are then expected to linger into the start of next week. Monday remains partly cloudy with a high chance of rain and a top of 16 degrees, while Tuesday brings a similar picture, with a shower or two still possible as winds turn southwesterly during the day. Temperatures should remain steady at around 16 degrees.

Across the rest of South Australia, the pattern is a little more mixed. A high pressure system near Tasmania is helping keep much of the state cool and settled for now, but a weak trough over the north is still bringing patchy showers to parts of the pastoral districts and the West Coast. Morning fog and frost are also a feature through parts of the agricultural areas, especially over the next few days, which could make for reduced visibility and icy starts in some regional communities.

By Thursday, showers are expected to contract towards the North East Pastoral district, where thunderstorms are also possible in the far northeast during the afternoon. On Friday, those showers should ease in the northeast before isolated showers begin developing over agricultural districts and the west coast later in the day. By Saturday, a broader band of showers is expected across the agricultural area, with fresh west to northwesterly winds near the coasts and ranges before a cooler southwesterly change moves into western parts late in the day. Rainfall totals through to Saturday are expected to stay quite modest in many areas, though parts of the far southeast, the North East Pastoral and southern North West Pastoral could see higher falls.

Happy Wednesday!
