A Chinatown Vietnamese restaurant is expanding, with the team behind Thanh Thanh set to open a second venue in Adelaide’s western suburbs.
Phở Thanh Vietnamese Cuisine will officially open on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at 10 Arndale Street, Kilkenny. Owner Khanh Nguyen said that the decision to expand came from customer demand for their Chinatown eatery, Thanh Thanh.
“Many of our customers travel from different suburbs to dine with us and encouraged us to open another location closer to them,” he said.
“Their loyalty and positive feedback gave us the confidence to grow.”
The new restaurant will take over the previous site of Khang’s Noodles, who announced they were closing temporarily on Facebook in January, and are moving to Westlakes.
Similar to the city store, Pho Thanh will place pho at the centre of its menu, with the signature broth simmered for around 24 hours using premium beef bones and carefully selected spices.
“The long, slow cooking process creates a rich, clear, and naturally sweet broth without relying on artificial flavours,” Khanh said.
“Every bowl is prepared with the same care and attention because we believe great pho takes time and patience.”
The backbone of the restaurant is Khanh and his wife, who are hands on with every aspect of the business, from the kitchen to the front of house.
“I am in the kitchen every day, making sure every dish meets our standards, while my wife looks after the front of house, welcoming customers and ensuring they have a great dining experience,” Khanh said.
He said the goal for the new venue is to continue sharing authentic Vietnamese cuisine with the community while maintaining the quality and consistency of their city venue.

Alongside the usual menu favourites, Phở Thanh will also begin serving traditional matcha drinks including a matcha frappe, iced matcha latte, and a hot matcha latte.
He said the success of the city restaurant is thanks to the commitment to quality.
“While there are many Vietnamese restaurants, we focus on doing the traditional dishes exceptionally well.
“We use premium ingredients, prepare everything fresh every day, and provide warm, friendly service so every customer feels welcome.”
