Blewitt Springs is set to unveil its revamped cellar door this summer, making it a weekend hotspot rather than an appointment only winery.

In the heart of the picturesque McLaren Vale wine region, a transformation is underway at Blewitt Springs. The winery is renovating its cellar door from the remnants of old stables to create a new space for both locals and the region’s visitors.

What was once a well-kept secret, available only by appointment, will soon welcome people every weekend come summer.

The metamorphosis of Blewitt Springs’ cellar door will start by upgrading the existing shed and winery to include modern restrooms, a more comfortable and stylish seating area outside, and an expanded seating capacity.

“While we could only host 10 people before, we will soon be able to have up to 73 people in our cellar door,” owner Phil Tabor says.

But that’s not all; the vision extends beyond the immediate premises. The adjacent barrel shed, once hidden from view, is being incorporated into the space, offering an authentic peek into the winemaking process.

One of the most commendable aspects of this renovation is its commitment to accessibility. Recognising the importance of providing for all patrons, an amenities block is being built to ensure that everyone can partake in the joys of wine-tasting.

It doesn’t stop at the physical transformation. Blewitt Springs has its eyes set on becoming not just a place to taste wine but a destination venue.

With plans to host live music events, open days featuring food trucks, and even a food truck pizza night, the cellar door will be a popular spot for locals. While currently operating by appointment only, the new Blewitt Springs cellar door is set to officially open its doors on Saturdays and Sundays every week.

It will be serving up its glorious small batch Blewitt Springs wines from Taborco Vineyard which boasts an organic certification.

The vineyard, spanning around 18 acres of Shiraz vines, has a unique terroir that imparts exceptional character to the wines. With its high altitude, ancient sand, and diverse soil composition, the vineyard yields grapes that are transformed into a robust, fruit-driven wine with remarkable cellaring potential.

Blewitt Springs has also started a new label called Lobomay Wines which it will be sharing at its new cellar door. It’s 100% natural, lo-fi, non-GMO and has very little additives.

Owned by Phil, a visionary who transitioned from a successful manufacturing business to follow his passion for wine, will welcome people to the new cellar door this summer.
