Bowden proudly holds the title of the highest concentration of 6 Star ‘Green Star’ homes in Australia, which means the residential properties are fully electric, draught sealed, and powered by renewable energy.

The homes are designed to promote plenty of natural light with good insulation and ventilation, and are at least 10% more energy efficient than the required building codes. Annual households save approximately $2400 in energy bills every year, with enough electricity savings to charge an electric car 26 times, and reducing waste totalling more than 100 trucks from landfill annually.

In terms of what this means for the environment and sustainability, annual household CO2 savings are equal to planting 120 trees, and enough water is saved each year across the community to fill seven Olympic-sized swimming pools, raising the benchmark for communities all across the country.

To qualify for such a high Green Star rating – developed by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) – communities are assessed against a range of environmental factors that include water management and energy use, with properties deemed worthy of the rating being granted a seal of approval that indicates quality and sustainability, a true step in the right direction as South Australia moves toward becoming a cleaner and greener state.

Bowden residents can be proud to enjoy a community that provides a convenient and healthy place to live, with an abundance of green spaces for social interactions and activities, a place that protects flora and fauna and aims to reduce carbon footprints and promote a more positive lifestyle.

Bowden’s greener living initiatives will hopefully encourage other communities to follow suit and promote positive change and responsible building practices, creating a brighter future that benefits the environment, advocates for community health and wellbeing, and results in a reduction of living expenses.
