FIRST LOOK: Mylk Bar opens new Hindmarsh venue inspired by classic Australian milk bars

Plus, Mylk Bar owner Amin Ayoubi reveals plans for a fifth location and further expansion interstate.

A fourth Mylk Bar hub has officially opened in Hindmarsh, making it easy for soccer fans and concertgoers to grab pre-entertainment drinks or a post-show feed.

Like its sibling stores scattered around Adelaide, the venue has a unique touch inspired by its surroundings, and this one certainly leans into the soccer atmosphere. A signed guernsey sits above the bar, proudly displaying owner Amin Ayoubi’s last name, and when we go to visit, the World Cup plays on the flat-screen TV.

As a soccer fan himself, Amin is keen for the season to get underway towards the end of October and right through to May. While the venue is fully decked out with a shiny barista coffee machine, smooth concrete bar top and busy kitchen, there’s one thing still in the works: a mural.

“I want to expose Hindmarsh Stadium, the old Hindmarsh Stadium, with the old soccer teams,” Amin said.

“Because before Adelaide United was playing there, every local club was playing there.”

This will be represented through artwork stretched above the row of booth seating on one of the walls.

“I want to bring that life into this Mylk Bar as Hindmarsh is obviously the soccer hub in this area.”

The Australian milk bars peaked from the 1950-70s, as iconic, suburban corner stores used as a community hub for milkshakes, lollies and daily newspapers. Which is exactly what inspired Amin when first bringing the food and drink hub to Adelaide.

At the same time as leaning into the soccer theme, Amin still wants to bring the classic Mylk Bar energy to the venue, with its signature dishes and drinks.

“The offering will still remain the same, that very casual environment and approach to everything we do.”

“One of the things we’re significant for is the health bowls we do, or the variety of bowls, like our pork belly bowls and burrito bowls.”

The menu features breakfast favourites like eggs on toast, smashed avo, mushroom omelette and Belgian waffles, for the sweet tooths.

Along with the bowls, customers will find burgers, wraps, fritters and salt and pepper squid on the menu. It’s easy, simple and presented well, which is what Mylk Bar does at each venue.

As the Hindmarsh location hits its third week of being open, regulars have already started to appear each morning for their coffee fix or grab-and-go snack. Amin also said a few people have already enquired about functions, with the venue’s first one happening this weekend.

“This weekend, we’ve got the Mustang Club coming in,” he said.

“They have an annual registration day where over 500 Mustangs will come through and get their cars signed off for the following year.”

While things are quickly revving up, so is the Mylk Bar offering in South Australia as they have just announced another venue in another Adelaide suburb.

Future plans are to come closer to the coast and even expand interstate, Amin said.

While we wait for kick-off, you’ll find us in Mylk Bar’s newest Hindmarsh spot.
