If you’ve ever wandered through an antique shop convinced you’ve spotted a hidden treasure, this is your chance to put your instincts to the test.
The Friends of Carrick Hill are bringing back their popular Antique Reveal fundraising evening this August, inviting guests to discover the fascinating world of antiques while helping preserve one of South Australia’s most treasured historic homes.
Held in The Pavilion at Carrick Hill on Friday, August 21st, the interactive event challenges guests to identify which of three seemingly similar antiques is “Good, Better or Best”, with each item carrying a very different value.
Guiding the evening will be three respected experts from South Australia’s museum and auction world, who will reveal the stories behind each object while sharing insider tips on what collectors should look for when assessing antiques and collectibles.
This year’s panel includes Anthony Hurl, South Australia’s specialist representative for Leonard Joel Auction House, Gabrielle Sexton, Curator and Business Manager at the National Railway Museum, and Dr Ellen Whitton, curator of Carrick Hill’s own renowned collection.
Adding an extra twist for 2026 is a brand-new “Mystery Object” challenge, where guests will be invited to guess the true purpose of a curious item, all while the experts attempt to throw them off the scent.
Following a successful debut last year, all proceeds from the event will support the preservation of Carrick Hill House Museum and Gardens, helping maintain one of Adelaide’s best-loved heritage estates for future generations.
Guests can book a table with friends or join fellow antique enthusiasts for the evening, with Rozelle’s offering drinks from the bar and light meals available to purchase. There will also be raffles on the night, with attendees encouraged to bring along gold coins and cash to take part.
