Do you have backpacks lying piling up in storage? Well Backpacks 4 SA Kids are in a desperate need for backpack donations! The organisation has taken to Facebook to call out for donations from locals.
“Our backpack supply has been held up and we are hoping our amazing South Australian community can help fill our shortfall,” says Backpacks 4 SA Kids on Facebook.
Backpacks 4 SA Kids’ mission is to offer resources that contribute to the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people during period of dislocation from home and routine care.
Approximately 44,000 other children become homeless every year, often leaving in a hurry with their mums’ due to family violence (Mission Australia 2017).
The organisation works alongside child protection, child welfare, family violence and homelessness agencies to provide as many displaced children as possible with an age-appropriate backpack containing a range of essentials and other goodies.
The charity provides 4 unique tailored programs under the Backpacks 4 SA Kids banner, including:
- Backpacks: For kids who leave home with little to no notice and often have no clothing or other essentials.
- Home Starter Packs: Designed families which have left a violent relationship at home and need to start agin.
- Anchor Packs: For young people aged 12-24 who are experiencing homelessness.
- Christmas Program: Providing newborn to 18-year-olds with Christmas gifts when entering into emergency care.
“Our kids can’t receive the program support they so desperately need without backpacks,” says Backpacks 4 SA Kids on Facebook. This is where you come in. They are looking for backpacks around the 43 x 30 x 15cm size range and any help at all.
