Sometimes heading over to your best mate’s house for drinks beats squeezing into an overcrowded city bar, especially when you’re just looking to unwind and have a good time.

That relaxed, familiar feeling is exactly what No.6 East is being built around.

Opening on East Terrace, the new bar comes from Cantina Group, the team behind popular Adelaide venues Jennie, Malt & Juniper, Alfred’s and Bar Bar.

At the centre of the new opening is Lachlan ‘Lachy’ Harrison, who knows Adelaide’s small bar scene well.

After starting out at Alfred’s, he went on to become a co-owner of Jennie Wine Bar and, more recently, Pirie Street cocktail venue Bar Bar, which was crowned Best Bar in South Australia for 2026 and took the number one spot in the Boothby Best Bars SA Top 30.

Fresh off that success, Lachy is now turning his attention to something a little more personal.

Now, with No.6 East, Lachy is taking inspiration from the place he says he has always preferred to drink.

“My favourite place to drink has always been someone else’s house,” Lachy said.

“So, when we started putting the concept together for No.6, and saw the character in this old 1920s building, it was a bit of a no-brainer.

“No.6 is a venue that welcomes you home. Whether you’re out on the drinking terrace, around the dinner table or standing at the bar, you’ll always feel welcome at my place.”

Reached by a set of stairs off East Terrace, the bar has been designed to feel lived-in rather than pristine, creating a space you can immediately relax into.

Think mismatched furniture, well-loved plants adding to the friend’s-house aesthetic, eclectic artwork lining the walls, and carefully chosen decor, with each piece carrying a story of its own.

Its East Terrace position also puts it directly opposite Rundle Park and the Garden of Unearthly Delights, giving the terrace a front-row position during Adelaide’s busy summer and Fringe season.

Set to open this September the bar hopes to operate Wednesday to Saturday, with extended hours over summer and Fringe season. There’s also the opportunity to grab the keys for a night and hire out the space for events and functions.

No.6 East is focusing on hosting over service. Much like a friend offering you another drink at their place, staff won’t wait to be asked, instead checking in and making sure you’re looked after like any good host would.

And don’t be surprised if the team knows you by name after just a couple of visits. It’s very much a mi casa es su casa kind of place.
