Iconic international dining experience Dîner en Blanc is returning to Adelaide for the first time since 2019

International phenomenon Dîner en Blanc is returning to Adelaide after an long hiatus, bringing its all-white event to a secret location.

Adelaide’s most mysterious dinner party is making a comeback, with Dîner en Blanc set to transform a secret city location into an all-white dining spectacle this December.

Dîner en Blanc is a global phenomenon, with events held across more than 120 cities in 40 countries, including beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris, at the Sydney Opera House, and at the World Financial Center Plaza in New York.

And now, after an eight-year hiatus, Dîner en Black Adelaide is returning on Saturday, December 5.

True to tradition, nobody is being told where it’s happening until moments before the event.

The dining experience will see hundreds of guests dressed in white descend on an Adelaide location for an evening of food, Champagne, music, and brûler les planches – dancing underneath the stars, co-producer Alexandra Psaltis said.

Alexanda organised the event’s return to Adelaide with local event professional Kirsty Aitken, combining their years’ of experience in major events and live entertainment.

“I went to the 2017 one in Adelaide, at the Waite Campus. It was so much fun,” Kirsty said.

“This year, it was in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane,” she said. “But Adelaide’s the food and wine capital!”

“Because I’m a subscriber, I knew it hadn’t been in Adelaide for a long time, so I just decided to apply for a license,” she said. “And I think people in Adelaide love a good social event too.”

Alexandra, who also owns Adelaide-based Friday Productions, added that the appeal is about more than dressing up and eating dinner.

“Performing around the world has shown me that remarkable experiences don’t depend on language or culture,” she said.

“They are about bringing people together to talk, toast, dine and finally brûler les planches – dance the night away!”

And while the location is being kept firmly under wraps, Kirsty promised that the wait will be worth it.

“Believe me, I’ve been asked and even bribed with French champagne, but the secret is safe,” she said.

At the December 5 event, guests will meet at designated departure points before being escorted by Dîner en Blanc volunteers to the mystery location. Once they arrive the real spectacle begins: tables and chairs are set up, white tablecloths unfurled, and dinner is served.

You can bring your own gourmet picnic, complete with white dinnerware and proper stemware, or pre-order a catered picnic through the event’s e-store for collection on the night. Wine and champagne are available through the event store, while outside alcohol isn’t permitted.

“I’ve spent my career producing events of every scale and one thing I’ve learnt never changes is that people remember how an event makes them feel,” Kirsty said.

“That’s what we are creating with Dîner en Blanc Adelaide. It will be an experience that stays with you long after the evening is over.”

Ticketing information and on-sale dates are expected to be announced shortly.
