Established only this year, ORBIN. is the creative child of local director and designer, Amanda Kovaleff.
Kovaleff has always had a love for fashion and design but hadn’t considered it a career option until last year, when she took the plunge and pursued her creative vision.
“From that point my whole outlook on designing changed and now I am just excited to be able to share my vision with others,” says Kovaleff.
I probed Amanda further about ORBIN.
How do you describe your design aesthetic?
My design aesthetic is ever changing and solely depends on my mood, however the underlying vision for ORBIN is to develop designs for the modern day woman who appreciates classic style.
What inspired your debut Spring/Summer 2012/13 collection, MODERN HISTORY?
The underlying vision for ORBIN. is to develop designs for the modern day woman who appreciates classic style and my debut collection, MODERN HISTORY was inspired by this vision. The collection features elements of classic 60's style mixed up with modern twists. To communicate this fusion of time I have focused heavily on fit and more importantly fabric selection and manipulation to ensure the personality of the collection is heard.
What have been some hurdles during the creation process of ORBIN.?
The hurdles I have encountered throughout the development of ORBIN. have mainly all been personal. I am a perfectionist, and ensuring perfection is a never ending battle with one's self.
What is your advice for aspiring local designers?
Go and get it. Don't hold back your visions, the world needs more people like you. Be yourself, stay true to your designs and aspire to be great. Don't think twice about it.
What’s next for ORBIN?
I am currently working on winter 2013, which is very exciting. Expect to see more from ORBIN. more attitude, more intricate detail and more expressive design. I am working with a fabulous selection of fabrics, which I can't wait to bring to life. Think glamour, confidence and sophistication.
