Disco fever to heat things up this July – Boogie Wonderland – The Disco Show

Boogie Wonderland The Disco Show arrives at the Adelaide Royal Coach this July

This July, it’s time to get dressed in head-to-toe sequins, with bell-bottoms, halter tops and platform heels and get ready for the disco inferno! From the team who brought you Dancing Queen The ABBA Tribute Show, which sold out at this year’s Adelaide Fringe, Boogie Wonderland – The Disco Show is a feel good night of good times, packed with funk, glitter and a few groovy surprises along the way.

One of the creative minds and vocalists from the show, Eilannin Harris-Black, spoke to Glam Adelaide about the show, the disco era and what she loves about the 1970s and disco music.

“I remember someone after a show once came up to me and he said that the beautiful thing about disco music is it makes you, the listener, feel really fabulous and sexy. A lot of modern music feels like it’s all about the performer showing themselves, whereas disco music makes you feel special, funky, and fabulous. I think that’s why people keep returning to it. There’s been a real resurgence of 70s fashion and music over the last few years, so we’re finding lots of younger people are coming and falling in love with disco music for the first time. The disco era really unites people as well; there’s something in there for everyone.”

For three groovy nights this July, Boogie Wonderland – The Disco Show will take over the Adelaide Royal Coach with their dinner show extravaganza. It is presented by Interactive Theatre International – the team behind global smash-hit Faulty Towers The Dining Experience and Adelaide Fringe favourite Confetti & Chaos – in partnership with Grumble Entertainment.

We asked Eilannin how the creation of this show came about.

“I’ve always really liked disco music. When I was teaching dance, I used to always bring out disco music for my warm-ups and for our exercises, and the kids and their parents always seemed to like it. In the play-list we played after our Dancing Queen shows, we started incorporating disco music and people started coming up to us and saying, ‘Have you ever thought about doing a disco show?’ We started beta testing testing tracks in the post-show playlist and inevitably people got up and started dancing to it. So through testing songs and seeing what people really responded to, we then eventually carved out the show set list. “

Get ready for a non-stop night of floor-fillers and feel-good anthems, from Disco Inferno, Blame It On The Boogie, YMCA, and I Will Survive to the biggest hits of Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Boney M and more!

With so many hits coming out of the disco era, it would not have been an easy task to create the set lists for the show.

“We quickly found ourselves with a very long list of songs that we had to somehow whittle down to two forty-five minute sets. It wasn’t easy. There were obviously clear favourites we had to include, but the hardest part was working out what to cut. We’ve performed the show before interstate and we find that people come up to us and make suggestions of songs that could be included. I think we are going to eventually have a revolving set list for the show.”

Calling all cool cats and foxy ladies, dust off those platforms and step into Boogie Wonderland, where the dance floor is calling and the party does not stop!

“Adelaide audiences always seem to be up for a good bit of fun. They’re up for good wholesome fun, and the show is very much a campy, fun exploration of what disco is. It’s a disco inferno of glittery fun. The Royal Coach always looks after us and the staff there are the best to work with. They run a tight ship and their food is always incredible.”

All tickets include the show, a delicious two course meal and a one way ticket to the dance floor.
