$20,000 Birkin up for grabs for 1 cent in eBay’s 24-hour shopping event this Friday

South Australian Gen Z and Millennial shoppers are showing strong interest in live fashion shopping as eBay prepares to launch its first Australian 24 Hours of Drops event, with luxury items starting from just 1 cent.

Aussies will soon have the chance to score luxury fashion pieces for as little as one cent, as eBay launches its first-ever 24-hour live shopping event in Australia.

Kicking off from 8am AEST on Friday 26 June, the “24 Hours of Drops” event will feature more than 1,000 items across 100-plus livestreams, spanning everything from designer fashion and accessories to collectables and rare finds.

At the centre of the buzz are the “Penny Drops” – highly sought-after items that will start from just one cent. Among the standout pieces is a Hermès Birkin bag valued at more than $20,000, alongside other luxury brands including Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton.

Adding a celebrity edge, Australian fashion icon Lara Worthington will also host her own livestream during the event, offering pieces from her personal wardrobe archive. The sale will include a curated mix of designer fashion and accessories, with proceeds going to Bowel Cancer Australia, bringing a charitable element to the shopping experience.

Lara Worthington said pre-loved fashion has its own story to tell.

“Fashion, for me, has always been about personal expression, but what I love about pre-loved pieces is the history they carry, reflecting that moment in time. Being part of an eBay Live event like this celebrates those stories. It gives iconic pieces that I love a new life in a way that feels modern, fun and personal.”

The event marks a major push into live commerce for eBay in Australia, tapping into a rapidly growing trend that blends entertainment with shopping. Viewers will be able to tune into livestreams, interact with sellers in real time, see items up close and bid instantly, creating a more immersive and dynamic experience than traditional online shopping.

The timing aligns with new research from eBay suggesting Australians could spend up to $7.5 billion on pre-loved fashion through live commerce in the next 12 months, highlighting the scale of interest in this emerging retail format.

Here in South Australia, the appetite is already strong, particularly among younger shoppers. Data shows 79 per cent of Gen Z and Millennials in the state are likely to adopt live fashion commerce, with nearly all respondents open to being encouraged to purchase through these platforms. Key drivers include the chance to secure better deals, access unique or one-off items, and view products in real time before buying.

The growth of pre-loved fashion is also a key part of the appeal, with more Australians turning to second-hand luxury for both value and sustainability. eBay’s live format aims to bring these pieces to life, offering a more personal and engaging way to shop while connecting buyers directly with sellers.

With more than 100 livestreams planned and hundreds of one-cent deals set to drop throughout the day, the event is expected to attract fashion lovers, collectors and bargain hunters alike.

eBay Live’s 24 Hours of Drops begins at 8am Adelaide time on Friday 26 June via the eBay app and online, with Lara Worthington’s auction stream live from 2pm.
