Over the long weekend, a brand-new playspace in Uraidla officially opened to the Adelaide Hills community.
Featuring new play equipment, shelters and nature-play elements, this charming new area is a welcome addition to the Uraidla Reserve.
The design was developed in collaboration with community members, stakeholders and the Adelaide Hills Council, bringing the space to life through shared ideas and feedback.
“A big thank you to the Uraidla community for its patience, support and enthusiasm throughout the project. The new play space is set to be a much-loved destination for years to come,” the council said.
Key features include sheltered seating areas- perfect for wintery days – alongside climbing structures, a basket swing, balancing logs, natural teepees and more. It’s an ideal space for Hills families, or for those passing through on a winter road trip. Pack a picnic blanket and a ball or two, and you’ve got the perfect spot to let the kids get out those car-trip jiggles.
The project has been in development since 2024, when the council facilitated community design workshops at the Uraidla Hotel, bringing together passionate community members to discuss what they wanted to see in the development. Residents were involved at multiple stages of the planning process, providing feedback on different concepts as they evolved.

Coinciding with the opening is the reopening of the Red Shed, a cornerstone of the Uraidla community.
Described as “a vibrant space where anyone can come together to talk, design and bring new projects to life using an array of donated tools and appliances,” it remains a welcoming hub for creativity, connection and the sharing of skills across generations.
From young children to long-time Adelaide Hills residents, the reopening of these community spaces marks a welcome win for this little town with a big heart.
