With a best restaurant award under its belt, this Magill venue is offering a spicy twist on events

This Magill favourite has been host to hundreds of events and is becoming a go to celebration spot with private and outdoor function spaces.

Indian Club SA on Magill Road is known as one of the state’s best Indian restaurants, after winning the award in 2024.

Five years after opening, the venue has become more than a place to eat. It’s a place people come for comfort, familiarity and the special life moments that are shared with who we love most.

While they’re known for a great butter chicken, owners husband and wife duo Bishnu and Anu Kharel, have put in the hard yards to make their restaurant something more than a just a famous dish.

Last year the couple, along with their team, were awarded the Best Family Dining and Best Prestigious Casual Dining at the Restaurant & Catering Australia Awards.

“The venue has built a reputation for creating warm, memorable experiences centred around authentic Indian food and genuine hospitality,” Anu said.

“One of the most rewarding moments for the team has been seeing guests return not only to dine, but also to celebrate important milestones in their lives.

“Watching families choose the venue for birthdays, engagements, corporate events, and weddings reinforced that Indian Club SA had grown into something much more than a dining destination.

“It has become a place where people gather, connect and celebrate together.”

Over the years Indian Club SA have been host hundreds of events in their main dining, outdoor setting and private function room.

In that time the couple has had their fair share of funny moments that never fail to bring a smile to the team, especially when it comes to their spicy offerings.

“One thing that always makes us laugh is when guests ask for their food extra spicy and insist they can handle it, only to be reaching for a mango lassi a few minutes later!”

The main dining area sits up to 100 people and offers a vibrant energy that blends modern elegance with rich Indian culture.

“With flexible event spaces and a welcoming atmosphere, the venue caters comfortably to both intimate gatherings and large celebrations, making every occasion feel personal and special.”

“The space is designed to suit everything from casual family dinners to large celebrations and group events.”

But guest are also drawn to the outdoor dining area, which accommodates 40 guests. It’s relaxed and popular for those gatherings that feel more casual. In the fresh outdoor air, fairy lights dangle above, resembling a night sky, while the sunset mural adds a constant source of warmth.

Those wanting a more private option are directed to the private dining room and function space, which also hosts up to 40 guests.

“The flexibility of the space allows it to be tailored for a variety of events, including corporate dinners, birthdays, engagement celebrations, networking events and wedding functions,” Anu said.

“Guests appreciate the exclusivity of the private space while still enjoying the signature hospitality and authentic cuisine the venue is known for.”

Part of that is the Indian Club SA experience “the warmth, hospitality, and sense of connection,” Anu said. Indian Club SA’s goal to have every guest leave remembering the feeling they had while celebrating.

“Indian Club SA has become more than just a restaurant, it’s a place where people come together to celebrate life’s special moments,” Anu said.
