Stripped back from the glitz and glamour of Broadway and the West End stage, AJ Holmes’ one-man cabaret AJ Homes: Yeah, But Not Right Now is nothing short of pure entertainment and brilliance.
Armed with his incredible voice,
keyboard, acoustic guitar and a loop machine, Holmes take the audience on a
journey of his life, from his simple upbringings to the life of a Broadway and
West End star. This is Holmes’ first solo cabaret show, which he premiered at
last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Rising to fame at a young age, Holmes is best
known for his portrayal of Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon on
Broadway, The West End, and Australia for the Melbourne and Sydney seasons. He
is also a co-founding member of StarKid Productions, co-composing the music for
A Very Potter Musical and Twisted The Musical.
AJ Holmes oozes musical talent, with each number
in the show an original composition. His music is full of wit and clever lyrics
delivering comic moment after comic moment. Equal to his compositional skills
are his excellent piano and guitar playing.
From the moment Holmes stepped onto the stage he
had the audience in the palm of his hand. Even though he spent most of the
performance sitting behind his keyboard, his personality and charm filled the
venue.
AJ Holmes: Yeah, But Not Right Now is a must see this Fringe season. It’s not every day
that you get to witness a performer of this calibre up close and in such an
intimate setting. This show will even have the non-musical theatre nerds in
stitches.
