Fringe Review: Ladies of Soul

These ladies had plenty of Soul, brining some very fine music to their Fringe performance. Backed by the versatile band Blue Label, Tracey Aberle, Mel Smith and Tania Savelli sang up a storm. Music from diverse artists made up the play list. Interspersed with this were some very adept performers on silks, hoop and pole.

Nicole Walker impressed the audience on the silks moving artistically to the music, whilst Steph Ianella worked the pole, both centre stage (which went almost the full height of the theatre) and later on a pole on stage with the singers, both tasteful and athletic. Melanie Crossley hung beautifully from a hoop, moving to the music. Later, all also combined to dance.

Mel Smith gave a great rendition of Rehab, the Amy winehouse number and Aberle sang Dock of the Bay, supported by Smith and Savelli. All the songs were well received from It Must Be Love and Make Love To You to Leave Your Hat On, with all three singers combining in harmony on many. Savelli really got the audience clapping with Chain Of Fools, while Arbele slowed the mood with I Put a Spell On You.

The evening finished with a version of I Heard It On the Grapevine with the audience encouraged to join in and celebrate by dancing. A feel-good night of music.
