Thrones! The Musical Parody is the hilarious one-hour musical parody by the incredibly talented Baby Wants Candy troupe from the USA.

The show is set in a living-room with the group comforting (through education) the newly-divorced non-Game of Thrones watching Linda. The musical travels through season and character highlights, with the minimalist set and household object costumes mixing well with the lighting, smoke and occasional flying corpse.

The script is unexpected, vulgar, well-paced and funny, ranging outside the show’s crazier dialogues to pop-culture references, unrestrained incest and politics. The delivery is also outstanding with the actors nailing the accents and mannerisms. Meanwhile, the music and lyrics have the perfect combination of catchiness and absurd melodrama, heightened by the genuinely excellent harmonisations and choreography.

Personal highlights were the excoriating You Don’t Watch Game of Thrones? No Wonder He Left You Linda, the red-wedding re-enactment to the song Stabbin’ (set to Panda by Desiigner) and the fanfiction (ft. Harry Potter/girl-power/multiromance elements).

Overall, the show starts off brilliantly but loses some steam towards the end, with the songs and dialogue seeming to drag. It doesn’t have the energy or the unrestrained laughs of their improv Baby Wants Candy (funniest show I’ve seen at the Fringe) but is still a stand-out and a must see for Game of Thrones fans, though (unsurprisingly) others won’t find the same enjoyment.
