Heavy metal band Pantera latest celebrity sighting at Africola

One of the most iconic heavy mental bands from the 90s have been spotted at a popular CBD restaurant ahead of their Adelaide gig.

US heavy metal band Pantera were seen at Adelaide’s dining hotspot Africola over the weekend, adding a sprinkle of star power to the restaurant’s already illustrious guestbook. The visit, captured in a memorable snap with Africola’s Chef Duncan Welgemoed, came as the Texas natives prepare for a rockin show at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Tuesday night.

Pantera were one of the most influential acts in the second wave of thrash metal during the late 80s and early 90s, with their impact marking them as one of the greatest metal bands ever. Achieving immense global success in the 1990s, Pantera garnered multiple gold and platinum albums, embarked on sold-out tours, delivered ferocious live performances, and earned four Grammy nominations.

From the groundbreaking release of their album “Cowboys from Hell” in 1990 to the historic reunion of Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo in 2023 for their first tour in over two decades. Their upcoming Australian tour marks their first appearance in the country since 2001 and stands as their only headline show in Australia, promising an unforgettable experience for fans old and new.

Africola has become the go-to dining destination for celebrities touring in South Australia, with names like Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, tennis icon Novak Djokovic, and pop superstar Katy Perry all stopping by to sample Chef Welgemoed’s acclaimed culinary creations. In a twist of fate, when the iconic Foo Fighters visited Adelaide, Africola was too full, leading the popular chef to take the rock legends for exclusive dinner at The Exeter, where he cooked for the group, ensuring the rock legends didn’t miss out on Welgemoed’s famous dishes.
