Adelaide Oval will host next summer’s first men’s Test against India and be the venue for two one-day internationals next season.
Women’s international cricket will also return to Adelaide, with Australia playing New Zealand in an ODI at the new Karen Rolton Oval (Park 25) on Sunday, 24 February.
The 2018-19 international fixture, released today by Cricket Australia, confirms that Australia’s four-Test series against world No 1 ranked India will start in Adelaide on Thursday, 6 December.
It is still to be decided if it will be a day or day/night Test, with discussions ongoing between CA and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Adelaide Oval’s international program opens on Friday, 9 November, when Australia plays South Africa in a day/night Gillette ODI, the second of a three-match series.
A day/night ODI, the second of three 50-over matches against India, will be played on Tuesday, 15 January.
SACA Chief Executive Keith Bradshaw said the first Test against India would be the highlight of a busy season of international cricket in Adelaide.
“We put forward a strong case to secure the India Test and we are also thrilled to have been awarded two of the six men’s ODIs,” he said.
“Our major investment in redeveloping Karen Rolton Oval has also been rewarded with a women’s ODI.
“This is a great result for South Australian cricket, which again reinforces just how important it is that we position ourselves for future growth in what is a dynamic and challenging environment.
“That’s reflected in the current work we’re doing with our members to modernise our constitution and legal structure to ensure we can provide the best games, the best talent and the best experiences for South Australian cricket lovers for generations to come.”
Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said the timing of Adelaide’s Test was still being discussed.
“It is our preference that we play India in a day/night Test match in Adelaide, but we are still working through this detail and hope to have an answer on this in the coming weeks,” he said.
India last played a Test at Adelaide Oval in December 2014, the first Test match played at the redeveloped ground.
The Adelaide Test has been a day-night fixture for the last three seasons, against New Zealand, South Africa and England.
