Indulge in a delicious Ukrainian feast in the Adelaide Hills raising funds for refugees

Head to the Ukrainian Feast for Refugees in SA to enjoy wonderful dishes while raising funds for South Australian refugees.

It has been nearly 12 months since the escalation of the war in Ukraine, and Circle of Friends Australia is putting on a cultural event to support refugees in South Australia.

At the The Olive Branch Cafe in Balhannah, you’ll be able to enjoy wonderful Ukrainian dishes from recipes out of a 2020 Ukrainian cookbook called Summer Kitchens by chef Olia Hercules.

Hercules has been rallying her Instagram followers to raise funds for the Ukrainian resistance as well as creating a global initiative #CookForUkraine to support her country.

This event will be channelling that energy, raising funds going to projects to support refugees in South Australia.

The event which is on Friday March 31st and Saturday April 1st is a great night out with family and friends and provides a chance to try the deep flavour profiles of Ukraine.

“Last year we had an event like this and it sold out in a week and a half. We even had a Ukrainian woman called Nadia who wanted to celebrate her 92nd birthday there,” event coordinator Nathan Rogers says.

All funds from the event including a raffle will be going to Circle of Friends Australia which is comprised of volunteers who share a common commitment to welcoming and assisting new arrivals with the difficult process of establishing themselves in a new country, or with the challenges of detention.

“In 2022 we held two fundraising events and raised $5000 which was donated to the Association of Ukrainians in SA which helped refugee school children to a school camp. This year there will potentially be a wellness weekend for refugee women and girls,” Nathan says.

The ticket price Includes all food, both savoury and sweet and while you can purchase drinks, you can also BYO wine.
