LIV Golf has secured a major step towards its future after announcing an agreement with a lead investor as the golf league prepares for what it says will be a new era driven by players.
The announcement was made during a press conference at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, where LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil revealed the league has a signed agreement in place with an investor that has been approved by the board.
The deal is expected to provide the foundation for LIV Golf’s next phase of growth.
In an official statement, LIV Golf said it had “an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.”
The league said it has also received interest from more than a dozen other parties looking to become minority investors, creating what it described as a multi-partner model focused on long-term stability and expansion.
A major part of the proposed future structure will see LIV Golf players become majority equity holders in the league, which LIV says would make it the first major global sports league to adopt that model.
“Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide,” the statement said.
The announcement comes as LIV Golf continues to shape its position within the global golf landscape after launching in 2022 with backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and attracting some of the biggest names in the sport.
Among those who have joined the league are major champions and international stars, including Aussie Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson who have become one of LIV Golf’s most recognisable players.
The proposed investment deal is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, with LIV Golf aiming to enter into the transaction in September.
For now, the league says its focus remains on delivering the remainder of the 2026 season, including this week’s LIV event in Bedminster, New Jersey, while preparing for what it describes as a player-focused future.
