Malaysian-Chinese flavours meet native Australian ingredients as former MasterChef stars unite for a six-course degustation

MasterChef stars Aaron Kher and Jack Hosking are bringing their culinary talents to Bird in Hand for a one-night-only degustation in the Adelaide Hills.

If you’ve ever watched MasterChef Australia and found yourself wishing you could actually taste what’s coming out of the kitchen, this might just be the next best thing.

Two familiar faces from the latest season of Australia’s beloved cooking show, semi-finalists Aaron Kher and Jack Hosking, are heading to the Adelaide Hills for a special one-night-only dinner at Bird in Hand this October.

The pair are joining forces for an intimate six-course degustation, bringing together the flavours, techniques and culinary identities that made them stand out during their time on the show.

For Aaron, that means dishes inspired by his Malaysian-Chinese heritage, drawing on the bold flavours, traditions and memories that have shaped his approach to cooking.

Jack, meanwhile, will bring his passion for seafood, native Australian ingredients and the precision of fine dining to the table.

The result is a meeting of two very different culinary perspectives, with the former contestants swapping the MasterChef kitchen for the picturesque surrounds of Bird in Hand.

The special dinner will take place on Thursday, October 15, giving guests the chance to experience the pair’s cooking outside the pressure of the television kitchen and in a much more intimate setting.

The evening will begin with Bird in Hand sparkling and canapés before guests sit down to six courses, with each dish paired with a selection of wines from the Adelaide Hills winery.

Priced at $290 per person, the experience includes the full six-course degustation and wine pairings, making it a chance to settle in for an evening of food and wine rather than simply a quick dinner.

For fans who followed Aaron and Jack through the latest season, the dinner also offers a glimpse at how their culinary styles have continued to evolve beyond the competition.

Aaron’s Malaysian-Chinese background brings a focus on heritage, flavour and the food memories that have influenced his cooking, while Jack’s interest in seafood and Australian native ingredients offers a distinctly local perspective.

Bringing the two together means guests can expect plenty of contrast across the six courses, with their individual approaches coming together throughout the evening.

And, of course, there’s something pretty special about watching chefs cook on television before eventually getting the chance to taste their food for yourself.

With limited places available, this is one for MasterChef fans, keen foodies and anyone looking for an excuse to head into the Adelaide Hills for a long lunch-style dinner, only this time, there’s no pressure to impress the judges.

Just come hungry.
