New Australian Publisher is About Kids Books

About Kids Books is a new Australian publishing house specialising in books for children aged 8 to 12 years old. Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts.

There’s a new kid in town who knows all about kid’s books.

About Kids Books is a boutique publishing imprint devoted to putting out quality fiction for children aged 8 to 12 years. American author Maya Angelou said of writing books: ‘The idea is to write it as if people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart.

Seeking just such books, Dianne Bates has launched her new publishing house with multi-award-winning children’s novelist Bill Condon’s new book, All of Us Together, about a struggling family in the 1930’s Australia Depression. At 30,000 words, it is an uplifting story told with great poignancy and humour, selected after a seven-month search through more than 150 submitted manuscripts. It will be released on 30 October this year.

Bates herself has been a writer for more than 35 years, having written over 130 books, however her enthusiasm to start her own Australian publishing house for children’s books sent her on a steep learning curve with designers, illustrators, printers, distributors, book clubs, library suppliers and more.

After so much preparation, the doors are finally open and the first book off the shelf is nearing its launch! Writers are invited to submit manuscripts to About Kids Books via their website, sending two chapters and a synopsis. Submissions are acknowledged straight away with a decision whether to progress to the next stage usually made within a few weeks.
