NEW! Silver Sands Beach Club serves up sensational views, food and SA’s best drink list

Taking over the Aldinga Bay Life Saving Club, Silver Sands Beach Club is the newest venture from wine critic Nick Stock.

A new beachside venue in Aldinga has sprung to life and is already impressing locals and visitors alike with its showcase of local produce and stunning views and while the title of “SA’s best drink list” is up for debate, with Nick Stock in charge it’s a safe bet that it will be pretty impressive.

Silver Sands Beach Club is the newest venture for the renowned wine critic who, along with his business partner, DJ and food vendor Mark Kamleh, has turned the old Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club restaurant into the mid-coasts newest go-to venue.

Operating from mid-arvo ‘til night, the ‘tavern-style’ venue will serve nibbles for the passers-by, beers for the night owls and everything in between. With a strong focus on local beer, wine and produce, the boys are intending to become somewhat of a hub for local enthusiasts and create a range of interesting drinks that are sure to catch your eye. Not ones to discriminate, there will also be a range of funky non-alcoholic drinks available.

Providing a laid-back casual vibe, venue manager Peter Symons says they want the community focus from the Surf Club to flow through to the restaurant.

The menu sees a Mediterranean-Italian flair on all the pub classics you know and love. Fish and Chips, burgers and schnitzels are all still available but sit alongside a Kingfish pastie, prawn cocktail buns and grilled swordfish. But the most popular items so far? That’d be the Club Cheeseburger and Silver Sands take on salt and pepper squid.

Former Herringbone chef, Alessandro Gramazio, has come on board as Head Chef working closely with Annika Berlingieri who was brought on during the initial stages of menu development. Seasonality and availability of produce drive many of the additional dishes with room also allowed for the pair to use their creative flair.

With its striking coastal views from the main restaurant, the plan is to eventually have a kiosk-style set-up to the side of the building offering coffee, nibbles and even an outside bar area, hopefully all in time for summer!

The idea for the venue came about following major storm damage in 2018 that caused The Surf Life Saving Club to rebuild. With the running of the restaurant becoming too much for the club, they decided to put out an expression of interest to see if anyone would be able to make good use of the space. After many proposals, Nick and Mark were the lucky two to secure the spot.

After a stint of pop-up style trading, the space has been operating in full for the past two weeks since the approval of a full liquor license.
