New website offers up-to-date information on River Murray flow levels

A new dedicated webpage has been created on the Department for Environment and Water website allows residents to check if their property is in danger.

A new dedicated webpage has been created on the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) website that features new inundation maps and a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions about the current flooding situation of the River Murray.

The river is currently seeing its highest flows in almost 50 years with the site being created to allow local residents to prepare and check if their property is likely to be affected through flood awareness, infrastructure and projected flow maps on the site.

The new page on the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) website also includes FAQs that aim to address community questions and concerns.

Minister for Climate, Environment and Water, Susan Close, says “We are talking about flow levels not seen in SA for close to 50 years, so it’s important for the community to have all the information and tools readily available to help them prepare.

“DEW has developed a range of mapping tools to support flood planning and response ahead of the peak flows and these are all available via the new web page.

“The department will continue to update the page as new information comes to hand so I encourage the community to visit the site regularly to stay informed.”

Latest modelling predicts river flows of up to 120 gigalitres a day – the highest since 1975, when flows reached 160GL a day – into South Australia by early December.

Government technical officers are currently in the Riverland working with the council and landowners to review levee banks and take necessary action to ensure their integrity before the peak flows arrive.
