Port Adelaide’s first Espresso Martini bar opens with barista made cocktails

Port Adelaide’s first Espresso Martini bar, Second Shot, has extended its hours to serve up delicious drinks day and night.

For the past 5 years one of SA’s top barista’s has been operating a coffee shop called Second Shot that’s tucked away in a quiet nook of the Port. Now, owner Nikki Palombi has extended her hours to open Port Adelaide’s first Espresso Martini bar.

While Port Adelaide might be known for its great selection of wine, whisky and gin bars, a location dedicated to Espresso Martinis adds a new layer to the area’s night life.

“I really wanted to bring the day life of coffee into the night. It’s a chance to give people something a little different and leverage my coffee reputation which is well known in the Port,” Nikki says.

Back in 2021, Nikki was voted SA’s top barista through the Advertiser and she wants to highlight those impressive skills to make Espresso Martinis with a point of difference.

“By being a barista and having the knowledge of the science that goes behind an extraction, the difference with my drinks is uncanny,” Nikki says.

“Even if other bars do pull fresh shots, mine are really smooth, we use different flavours for the over tones that go into them and it’s home made filtered coffee that backs it up. There’s a lot of care and art that goes into them.

“I just really love working and creating with coffee. The different things you can do with it is endless.”

At the moment there are 5 different flavours on the menu; Turkish Delight, Peanut Butter, Coconut Bliss, Rocky Road and Salted Caramel.

Second Shot also make up a range of other cocktails as well to spice things up. Nikki has created a coffee twist on an Old Fashioned and a coffee and cream shot which includes Irish whisky that has smooth vanilla, toffee, caramel and layered with baileys.

Nikki has also created a decaf Espresso Martini as well which is a great option for those who want the taste and social connection of the iconic drink, but without the energy boost of caffeine.

With sporadic live music events, happy hour on Friday between 4-6pm and Saturday 6-8pm and a great vibe, Second Shot is a great addition to the Port.

“I think the Port could really be a ‘Fremantle style’ destination. We get missed a lot but the nightlife is really cool here and there’s so many places to choose from. It has a lot of potential,” Nikki says.
