In a significant development, Rex Airlines has announced the inauguration of daily direct flights between Adelaide and Brisbane, slated to commence on October 30th.

With introductory fares starting from an economical $149 one way, the initiative marks a significant milestone in offering affordable and efficient air travel solutions.

This initiative is the third in a series of new routes launched by Rex in the last quarter, following the successful integration of the Adelaide-Sydney and Melbourne-Hobart routes into its domestic network.

The Hon John Sharp AM, Rex Deputy Chairman, articulated the company’s progressive vision, stating, “Step by step, our footprint is gradually growing as we continue to spread our wings so we can achieve our goal of flying to, and between, all of our capital cities.”

The new route, facilitated by the robust Boeing 737-800NG, is projected to augment the annual seating capacity between Adelaide and Brisbane by 128,000 seats.

Rex emerges as a frontrunner in the industry, offering a competitive edge with fares that significantly undercut those of its competitors, without compromising on the quality of services, which include a 23-kilo checked baggage allowance and complimentary onboard refreshments.

Brenton Cox, Managing Director at Adelaide Airport, commended Rex’s sustained investment in South Australia, recognizing the potential it holds in amplifying the Adelaide market.

“Rex has opened a further pipeline for Queenslanders to discover South Australia and once again has created more choice for South Australian travellers heading to Queensland – this is on the back of its recently introduced services to Melbourne and Sydney,” Mr Cox affirmed, emphasizing the timeliness of the new service amidst a resurgence in domestic passenger numbers.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, Chief Executive Officer at Brisbane Airport Corporation, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the revitalization of the Brisbane to Adelaide market, which is poised to regain its pre-COVID capacity levels.

“Today’s announcement by Rex will instantly restore it to 99% capacity which is very welcome news for travellers,” he noted, expressing a positive outlook for the burgeoning synergy between Queensland and South Australia.

This announcement comes at a pivotal moment for Rex, following its recent accolade as the ‘Airline of the Year’ at the prestigious Australian Aviation Awards 2023, a recognition it secured for the second consecutive year.

The award was graciously accepted by Neville Howell, Rex’s Chief Operating Officer, at a gala event attended by industry luminaries in Sydney.

Mr Howell attributed this monumental achievement to the unwavering dedication of the Rex team, stating, “These awards have been won on the back of the extraordinary efforts of all our staff who are the most dedicated, hard working and loyal aviation workers in Australia. All the awards were proudly accepted on their behalf.”
