AAMI Stadium will be a fundraising zone for the Women’s & Children’s Hospital (WCH) Foundation when Norwood and West Adelaide do battle in the SANFL Grand Final this Sunday 7 October.
The WCH Foundation is putting out the challenge for generous supporter rivalry, calling on all football fans attending the game on Sunday to give generously – with a goal to raise $10,000 for sick children at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
At the entrance to each gate at AAMI Stadium there will two donation bins – one for each grand final team. The Foundation would like supporters, as they enter the ground, to give generously into the donation bin of their team of choice. All funds raised on the day will go towards purchasing vital equipment for the neonatal intensive care unit – caring for the tiniest of babies at the WCH.
Nine year old Women’s and Children’s Hospital patient Ben Ducker will take on the official role of ‘coin tosser’.
Son of former Norwood player, Mark Ducker, Ben was born with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) – which means he has very little or no immune system. Mum Belinda says although Ben is sick and has a broken leg after falling from his bed, he is very excited about tossing the coin on Sunday. “Mark (his Dad) may need to carry him out on the ground but he won’t let that stop him from tossing the coin in front of his beloved Redlegs”
Sam Tolley, CEO of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation, says the support from the local football community on Grand Final day will make a huge difference to children like Ben, at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
“The synergies between the SANFL and the Foundation are tremendous – particularly to be able to leverage off the huge supporter base, that will in turn help us continue to invest in the best possible equipment and facilities at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital”
The Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation is the official charity of the WCH and has given in excess of $22 million since 2006, providing a positive Hospital environment for women, babies and children.
