SA’s newest food and wine hub, Artisans of the Barossa opens this long weekend

SA’s newest food and wine hub, Artisans of the Barossa opens this long weekend with a tasting room, restaurant and cafe, it’s the coming together of eight family-owned winemakers.

The Barossa has a new happening hub, with a tasting room, restaurant and cafe, it’s the coming together of eight family-owned winemakers.

Artisans of the Barossa in Tanunda will open its doors on October 1st, showcasing some of the Barossa’s finest wines paired with locally sourced food that will leave visitors craving more.

This new exciting wine and food destination is the collaboration of a team of winemakers who have been working together since 2005 to promote their wines and raise awareness of the region’s exciting small-batch winemaking scene.

The group has already collaborated on two successful venues in the Barossa – their original cellar door to the east of Tanunda, which operated for seven years until late 2018, and Vino Lokal Wine Bar & Artisans Tasting Room in the main street of Tanunda, which opened in early 2019.

From October 1, Artisans’ new home at Kroemer’s Crossing in Tanunda will host wine (formal and casual) tasting experiences, supported by their food offering, Essen by Artisans of Barossa.

Artisans of Barossa spokesperson Howard Duncan explained that Artisans of Barossa had been searching for the right location for some time and were excited with the possibilities that now lay ahead.

“Our purpose is to protect and promote the art of small batch Barossa winemaking, which has become an integral feature of Barossa’s wine identity over the past 20 years,” Howard said.

“Being able to showcase our wines in our own home, alongside exceptional food in a beautiful setting, is something we’ve been working on for nearly five years. Our aim was always to bring something new to the experience of enjoying Barossa wine, and we’re excited about what we’re about to deliver.

Howard believes the venue will be a must-visit destination for anyone who loves wine and food.

“Key experiences will include wine tastings, a range of dining options, space for special occasions such as weddings and a Barossa store called DelikatESSEN opening later in the year, which will be stocked with fresh produce from our own kitchen and local South Australian producers. We also promise great coffee.

“The art of winegrowing and winemaking is what has made the Barossa a household name around the world, and we fully intend to hero what the small producers of this region are capable of alongside the very best in seasonal and local produce,” he said.

Inspired by the region’s wine and food culture, the Essen by Artisans of Barossa menu heroes the surrounding landscapes, respecting the source of the food and nurturing the relationships from land to table.

“I have the phone number of every local farmer saved in my phone, and they tell me when the produce is ready,” Ryan said.

We are moving beyond the tasting bar as the central focus of the wine experience and want to present Barossa wine any way you like – the range and depth of experience visitors will enjoy at Artisans’ new home will be unmatched.”

Working closely with the winemakers and tasting room team of Artisans of Barossa, Ryan and his kitchen team will curate dishes to pair with the extensive Artisans of Barossa wine collection, highlighting the best of what the local landscape has to offer on that day.

“Food will be generous, presented simply and designed to share. Every dish is a snapshot of each element at its peak; flavour and nutrition, preparation and preservation,” Ryan said.

The Tasting Room will open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm. Essen by Artisans of Barossa will open for lunch Friday to Sunday, with plans to increase these hours as borders re-open and Artisans of Barossa grow their hospitality team.

The DelikatESSEN café and produce store will also open within the venue in November and will feature house-made specialties alongside a hand selected range of small-batch Barossa and South Australian produce. Hark Coffee in Malvern, one of Adelaide’s best coffee roasters, is on board to help Artisans deliver the Barossa’s best coffee.

Artisans of Barossa will open on Friday 1 October 2021.
