The Royal Adelaide Show is back at Wayville, bringing nine days of rides, showbags, food, animals and live entertainment to Adelaide.
Running until Sunday 13 September, this year’s Show has plenty of familiar favourites alongside new attractions, making it an easy choice for a family day out, an afternoon with friends or an evening under the fireworks.
Thrill seekers have two new rides to look forward to. The Warrior takes riders up to 55 metres high, while Lunarix, billed as the world’s first double-ended triple-spinning ride, is making its South Australian debut. There are also plenty of returning carnival rides for those who prefer something a little less intense.
The Main Arena is packed with entertainment throughout the week. American daredevil David “The Bullet” Smith is performing his human cannonball stunt, while Australian stunt driver Matt Mingay goes head-to-head with his son Madzy in the Hot Wheels Super Truck Challenge. Freestyle motocross and circus performances are also on the program, with the Fireworks Spectacular lighting up the sky each night.
For younger visitors, the entertainment lineup includes PJ Masks, Octonauts and the DC Justice League, featuring Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and Catwoman. Meet-and-greet opportunities are also scheduled throughout the Show.
Away from the carnival, there’s plenty to explore across the animal and agricultural displays. Aggie’s Farm gives children the chance to experience a miniature working farm, while the Farmyard Nursery, livestock pavilions and Agricultural Learning Centre offer everything from baby animals to sheep shearing and cow milking demonstrations.
Food is, of course, a major part of the experience. Alongside the classic dagwood dogs, fairy floss and hot chips, this year’s new offerings include Belgian chocolate-dipped frozen bananas, Mexican-inspired street food, American-style barbecue and plant-based Greek dishes. Dippin’ Dots is also returning with new loaded options.
The Duncan Gallery is celebrating 100 years of cookery competitions, with blue-ribbon baking on display, while photography, art, handicrafts and horticulture exhibitions provide a quieter way to explore the Show.
With more than 100 activities and events included in admission, there’s plenty to enjoy without spending the whole day on rides. Whether you’re heading in for the animals, the food or simply to soak up the atmosphere, the Show is a spring tradition worth making time for.
