Vodafone outage impacts calls to SA Police assistance line

RESOLVED: South Australia Police is urgently investigating a technical issue preventing Vodafone users from reaching 131 444.

This issue has now been resolved. A Vodafone spokesperson said, “The technical issue in South Australia affecting some calls from Vodafone customers to the Police Assistance Line (131 444) has now been fully resolved and services are operating normally. Triple Zero (000) remained fully operational throughout. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience.”

South Australians who rely on Vodafone are being advised to take note this morning, with South Australia Police confirming technical issues affecting calls to the Police Assistance Line, 131 444.

As of 7:06am on Thursday, January 29th 2026, SAPOL confirmed it is currently experiencing difficulties receiving non-urgent calls made from Vodafone mobile services. While the issue is still unfolding, authorities say it appears to be isolated to the Vodafone network only.

The Police Assistance Line, 131 444, is used for non-urgent police matters, including reporting property damage, suspicious behaviour, or incidents that don’t require an immediate emergency response. With the line temporarily impacted for some users, SAPOL has issued clear guidance to make sure the community can still access support where needed.

Police say the issue is under urgent investigation, and they are working closely with telecommunications partners to restore normal service as quickly as possible. In the meantime, anyone in South Australia who is unable to get through to 131 444 using a Vodafone mobile is encouraged to try an alternative method.

Where possible, SAPOL is asking people to use a landline or a mobile phone connected to another network to make their call. Importantly, emergency services have reassured the public that calls to Triple Zero (000) are not affected by this issue and continue to operate as normal.

If a situation is an emergency, police are urging people not to hesitate and to call 000 immediately.

The advisory comes as a timely reminder to check which number is appropriate for different situations. Triple Zero (000) should always be used for emergencies requiring immediate police, fire or ambulance assistance, while 131 444 is reserved for non-urgent matters.

SAPOL has advised that further updates will be shared as more information becomes available, particularly around when Vodafone users can expect full access to the Police Assistance Line to be restored.
