Voyage through pop history at massive Kylie Minogue party with rare collection

This Thursday 25th May party at My Lover Cindi to hits from Australia’s Princess of Pop for the ‘Ultimate Kylie’ party, where they’ll be the largest Kylie Minogue collection in the southern hemisphere.

Perfect your perm and bedazzle your booty-shorts: it’s time for some Locomotion devotion at the Ultimate Kylie party celebrating Australia’s Princess of Pop at LGBTIQ+ bar My Lover Cindi on Thursday 25 May.

The party is a part of South Australia’s History Festival (May 1-31) which is inspired by the theme of Wonder in 2023, and this is certainly not restricted to very old wonders.

Indeed, one of the five unique covers of the printed festival program features a highly contemporary collection: Troy-Anthony Baylis’ carefully curated collection of Kylie Minogue memorabilia – the largest such collection in the southern hemisphere.

Also pictured on the cover is local film-maker, DJ and fellow Kylie-lover, Nelya Valamanesh who at the party will be going through the musical archives of pop history with a focus on all things Kylie Minogue. Think of hot tracks like ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’, ‘The Loco-Motion’, ‘Spinning Around’ and ‘Magic’ playing on repeat.

“Kylie is my go-to when I DJ at My Lover Cindi,” Nelya says.

Not only will ‘Ultimate Kylie’ be a feast for you ears, but also your eyes.

“I adore Kylie and what she puts out into the world. Collating culture and curating culture are a safe space to carry out my archival tendencies,” Baylis says.

The event will be at My Lover Cindi which is an LGBTIQ+ night space with a bar and a space to dance. It’s a space that’s proud to host and celebrate the diversity within queer communities and is a place for people of all walks of life to come together.

“Kylie Minogue’s luscious vocals and upbeat pop sound has had queer people flocking to dance floors since the eighties! She is a staple in LGBTQ+ venues and continues to make music that gets us into the groove. As a queer-owned and -operated space, we are delighted to work with the History Festival on this iconic event,” My Lover Cindi owners Kate Toon and Rachel Hosking say.

It’s the perfect place for a boogie – dancing compulsory – and they’ll even be putting together a Kylie themed cocktail called Loco-Motion Love Potion which is a mix of Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Ruby red grapefruit juice, lemonade and fresh mint. The ticket price includes canapes.

This event is part of South Australia’s History Festival 2023, which has more than 520 events held across the state throughout the entire month of May.

Event organisers and attendees are encouraged to explore the wonderful world of cultural material and storytelling that exists across our state, to discover the values inherent in understanding the past. Pop culture and nostalgia is naturally a significant part of this.

This year, presenters of South Australia’s History Festival, the History Trust of South Australia, sought to place an emphasis on contemporary collector culture, and on the role each of us can play in the celebration and preservation of our shared history.

“I can’t wait to hit the disco dance floor and trip down memory lane. Kylie evokes dance parties, club nights and every possible celebration over the last 30 years – life is always better with a little Kylie on the playlist,” History Trust CEO, Greg Mackie OAM says.
