There’s a group of lucky young people who are gearing up to share the stage with a special guest straight from London’s West End.

Pelican Productions’ Music Theatre Camp 2024, set to light up the Michael Murray Performing Arts Centre this January, will feature West End performer Baylie Carson, adding a touch of international flair to the popular annual showcase.

Baylie, an alumnus of Pelican Productions, recently made a splash in London with their debut in ‘Six the Musical’ as Anne Boleyn. Their return to Adelaide for the camp is an inspirational opportunity for over 370 young performers participating in this year’s camp.

Baylie’s role as Mrs. Wilkinson in the ‘Billy Elliot’ set and their mentorship role is proving a hit for both camp attendees and organisers.

Co-directors Jen Frith and Kylie Green express their enthusiasm about Baylie’s involvement.

“We could not be more thrilled to welcome Baylie back to Music Theatre Camp. Baylie is the embodiment of the magic that happens when talent and hard work meets opportunity. Seeing our alumni not only shine but return to guide and inspire others is truly awe-inspiring”.

Now in its nineteenth year, the production in January 2024 includes an uplifting, heart-warming, and thoroughly entertaining program of new and old favourites with songs from Waitress, Wicked, Disney’s Descendants, Les Misérables, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Newsies, Billy Elliot, and The Boy From Oz.

Pelican Productions’ directors Jen Frith and Kylie Green have been championing youth theatre in South Australia for over twenty years. Joined by industry professionals, directors, choreographers and vocal and acting coaches, Music Theatre Camp has been the training ground for a number of very successful musical theatre performers with success in both national and international professional productions such as Six the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Tina the Musical and Wicked to name a few.

“Opening Up – Music Theatre Camp and Spotlight 2024 is far more than entertainment. It is young performers banding together and pouring their creativity and talent into presenting outstanding performances: singing, acting and dancing on a real stage, in front of a live audience.” says Kylie.

“Our camps provide a safe space where these young people can learn, experiment and collaborate, and where they can celebrate and create memories and friendships that live on well beyond the camp experience.”

“We encourage anyone who loves musicals to come along and be thoroughly entertained by our young stars – you will leave feeling an overwhelming sense of joy and hope”.
