Witnesses and footage sought as Police investigate Oxford Hotel fire as suspicious

Early morning flames engulf a building on O’Connell Street in North Adelaide yesterday, with police treating the incident as suspicious.

Police are currently investigating a suspicious fire that engulfed the Oxford Hotel on O’Connell Street in North Adelaide early yesterday morning. Emergency services were alerted to the incident just after 7am, following numerous reports of visible smoke and flames coming from the property.

Upon arrival, the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and police officers found the building already well ablaze. Firefighting teams battled the blaze, and managed to contain the fire. O’Connell Street was closed between Archer Street and Gover Street to facilitate emergency operations, although it has since been reopened.

The building sustained significant damage from the fire. Fire Cause Investigators, together with Eastern District Detectives, have been present at the scene conducting a thorough investigation into the origins of the blaze. Given the circumstances surrounding the incident, authorities are currently treating the fire as suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing to the public for assistance. They urge anyone who might have seen anything unusual around the time the fire broke out, or those who may have CCTV or dashcam footage capturing the incident, to come forward.
