Adelaide Festival Centre is taking to social media to join the International Jazz Day celebrations with its own Spotify playlist and appearances from local musicians on its Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Videos posted throughout the day will feature double bass player Lyndon Gray, trumpeter Lazaro Numa, pianist David McEvoy, guitarist Django Rowe, drummer Josh Baldwin and jazz singers Kate Fuller and Lauren Henderson.

All were set to perform in Adelaide Festival Centre’s International Jazz Day Concert, which was cancelled following the declaration of a public health emergency in South Australia due to COVID-19.

Instead, the musicians will share their stories of how they’ll join the global celebrations from their homes. They have also contributed songs towards Adelaide Festival Centre’s very own ‘International Jazz Day 2020’ Spotify playlist, which will also go live tomorrow.

“We will join people around the world in a global celebration of an incredible artform, and we’ll also celebrate Adelaide’s designation as a UNESCO City of Music,” said International Jazz Day Concert musical director Lyndon Gray.

“While we can’t celebrate together in person, we can celebrate together at home. We invite you to stay tuned on social media for messages throughout the day from some of Adelaide’s most talented musicians.”

You can join the conversation by telling the Adelaide Festival Centre how you’re celebrating International Jazz Day. Hashtag #JazzDayAtHome or tag @FestivalCentre on Facebook or @AdelaideFesCent on Instagram in your social media posts.
