Adelaide is heading into a cold but fairly settled week, with below-average daytime temperatures, crisp mornings and only a small chance of rain before showers become more likely by Sunday and Monday.
For most of today, Adelaide can expect partly cloudy skies and light winds, with the city reaching just 15 degrees. It’s a quiet winter’s day across the metro area, and while there’s little rain expected in town, the broader pattern across South Australia is keeping southern coastal districts under the chance of isolated showers. From Wednesday, conditions in Adelaide stay calm and cool, with a mostly sunny day on the way and a top of 16 degrees after a chilly 6-degree start. There’s also the chance of morning frost about the northern suburbs.
Thursday continues the run of cool winter weather, with partly cloudy skies, light winds and another top of 16 degrees. Friday looks much the same, although patchy morning fog could develop, especially around first light, before another partly cloudy afternoon. By the weekend, temperatures lift only slightly. Saturday is forecast to be partly cloudy with light winds becoming easterly at 15 to 20 km/h, and a maximum of 17 degrees.
The second half of the weekend brings a change in mood rather than a dramatic weather event. Sunday stays partly cloudy, but a medium chance of showers returns to the Adelaide forecast, with easterly winds turning northeasterly during the morning. Only light falls are expected at this stage, but it marks the start of a wetter turn. That shift becomes more noticeable on Monday, with a high chance of showers and a slightly warmer top of 18 degrees. North to northeasterly winds will also pick up, making it the most unsettled day of the seven-day stretch.
Out on Adelaide’s metropolitan waters, conditions remain relatively gentle through to Friday, which will be welcome news for anyone planning time on the coast. Winds are generally light, seas are staying below 1 metre, and swell is slight. Tuesday brings north to northeasterly winds at about 10 knots with partly cloudy conditions, before a sunny and calmer Wednesday with variable winds below 10 knots. Thursday sees winds swing from east to northeasterly, then south to southwesterly, before becoming east to southeasterly later in the day. By Friday, east to southeasterly winds remain below 10 knots with partly cloudy conditions continuing.
Across regional South Australia, the picture is also fairly mild in terms of rainfall totals, but cold mornings are set to be a feature through the middle of the week. Patchy fog is expected around the Agricultural Areas, with frost about the Murray districts today, then more areas of morning fog and patchy frost across central and eastern districts on Wednesday.
Isolated showers are most likely near southern coasts through the forecast period, with the Nullarbor also likely to see some shower activity from Wednesday, possibly extending through the West Coast by Thursday. By Friday, isolated light showers are forecast about the southern coasts, with possible falls extending into the Flinders and southeastern Pastorals. Most districts are expected to see less than 2 mm of rain through to the end of Friday, though 2 to 5 mm is possible about Kangaroo Island, the Nullarbor and the far southeast, with isolated falls of 5 to 15 mm possible about southeastern coastal fringes.
Happy Tuesday!
