Adelaide is in for a cooler, wetter turn over the next week, with showers building from today, a soggy Thursday on the way, and daytime temperatures staying mild to cool into the long weekend before a few brighter breaks return early next week.
Cloud is set to thicken across Adelaide through Wednesday, with a medium chance of showers developing later this afternoon and into the evening, along with the chance of a thunderstorm tonight. It’s not shaping up as a washout for the whole day, but anyone heading out later will want to keep an umbrella close by. The city is forecast to reach 25 degrees, with suburbs ranging from 22 degrees at Noarlunga to 26 at Elizabeth.
Thursday looks to be the wettest day of the week for the city, with a very high chance of showers and possible thunderstorms through the morning and afternoon. Rainfall totals of 5 to 15mm are possible, and the shift to southwesterly winds during the afternoon will help drag temperatures down, with Adelaide only reaching 21 degrees after a 15-degree overnight minimum.
That cooler pattern sticks around on Friday, although conditions should be a little less intense. Adelaide can expect a partly cloudy day with a medium chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon, and a top of just 19 degrees. Southerly winds will pick up during the day before easing again in the evening, adding to the cool spring feel.
Saturday brings a quieter spell, with partly cloudy skies and only a slight chance of rain. It will still feel fresh, starting from 9 degrees and climbing to around 20, while south to southeasterly winds shift through the day and stay noticeable at times. Sunday continues in a similar vein, with cloud hanging around, light winds, and a top of 19 degrees. Rain isn’t likely, but it won’t be one of those bright, clear spring days either.
By Monday, Adelaide should start to see a small lift, with partly cloudy conditions and just the slightest chance of a late shower. Light winds will become west to northwesterly during the day, and the temperature edges back up to 21 degrees. Tuesday then turns a little more unsettled again, with a medium chance of showers before conditions begin to clear later in the day. The forecast top is 18 degrees, with west to southwesterly winds turning south to southeasterly later on.
Across regional South Australia, the middle of the week is looking far more active. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the North West Pastoral, West Coast and southern agricultural areas today, with storms becoming more scattered in the far west. There is also the risk of severe thunderstorms in the far southwest this afternoon.
On Thursday, showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible across most districts, with rain at times over parts of the agricultural areas and possible severe thunderstorms in western and central districts. The far northeast is expected to stay dry through this period, while much of the west and south picks up the best rainfall totals by Saturday. Generally 5 to 15mm is expected across the west and south, with local falls of 15 to 25mm likely and isolated totals of 25 to 40mm possible about parts of the far west, southern coastal districts and Eyre Peninsula, particularly with thunderstorms.
Conditions settle somewhat on Friday and Saturday, although showers and storms are still possible over the pastoral districts and far west. Coastal areas can also expect fresh southeasterly winds at times, especially into Friday and Saturday.
