A popular Murray River venue is making it easier to grab a drink by the water, with Nor’ West Bend Station opening a new bar right on the riverbank this October.
The heritage-listed 175-year-old Nor’ West Bend Station at Stuart, around 10 minutes from Morgan, was reopened by Lisa and David Goodland as a riverside café and bar in late 2025.
Following a busy first summer, the owners are now expanding the venue with a dedicated outdoor bar overlooking the Murray River.
“We wanted to make better use of our riverfront and give people another place to sit,” Lisa told Glam Adelaide.
“We also had lots turn out last year and we had a lineup in the main barn and wanted to make it easier and hopefully quicker for people.”
The bar will be open from 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday of the October long weekend, with plans to extend its opening hours over the Christmas period, and Fridays throughout December.
It will allow visitors to stay down by the river rather than heading back up the hill to the main Barn Café and Bar.
“It will be a relaxed outdoor bar with all the usual favourites on tap,” Lisa said.
“We will have seven taps with a selection of beers, cider, hard lemon and gin and tonic.”
Its riverfront position also means visitors arriving by boat will be able to pull up and head straight to the new bar area.
The space comes with another new feature, with the bar’s cool room transformed by a mural of the Murray River by artist Jarrod Loxton, who has previously worked with NWB Station.
“We wanted something that represented the Murray and fitted in with the new bar,” Lisa said.
“Jarrod has done a couple of jobs for us now and I just love the fact that it is different and a talking point.”
