You’ve heard of a bull in a china shop, but what about a horse in a bar?

Adelaide nightlife hotspot, Shotgun Willie’s, has issued what might be the city’s most ridiculous challenge, offering the first person to bring a horse into the venue a year of free, all-you-can-eat food and drink.

It’s simple enough, as according to the bar’s announcement on Facebook, “bring horse = cheeseburgers and beer.”

Now, hold your horses. There are a few conditions and disclaimers from the venue stating that your long-faced friend must be real, alive and be able to squeeze through the front door.

It seems the venue are taking their no bookings, walk-ins only policy literally.

The list of disclaimers only get better from there. The horse must also consent to being filmed and can only officially give that consent by ‘splitting the G’. Shotgun Willie’s would also like to note that they will not be held responsible for any horses that fall through the floor into Memphis.

They finish the announcement by stating, “seriously though, someone bring us a horse. We’ve been simmering on this for years.”

While the cheeky announcement sounds like the result of a few too many beers, it fits perfectly with the venue’s larger-than-life and unpredictable charm. Shotgun Willie’s have never been ones to play it safe, and this idea, is certainly not very safe.

The Adelaide hotspot is the best place to boot-and-scoot your troubles away and link arms with a stranger, while belting the lyrics to “Achy Breaky Heart”. Inside the intimate venue, country music, live entertainment and dance floor chaos fuel long and unforgettable nights.

Alongside their packed live entertainment schedule, they offer Saddle & Stomp line dancing classes on Thursday nights, transforming locals into country folk, one two-step at a time. The classes have become so popular that it’s not uncommon to see dancers flood outside the door to the intimate bar.

Whether anyone actually gets a horse through the front door is still anyone’s guess. But if there’s one venue that’s willing to reward the effort, it’s Shotgun Willie’s.

A horse walks into a bar… and well, we’ll see what happens next!
