Applications open for SA Rural Leadership Program

FarmThere are less than 2 weeks left to apply for the 2010 South Australian Rural Leadership Program (SARLP).
SARLP is designed to help those leaders already making waves in their industry, and to those who have the potential to become the leaders of the future.

Lib Hylton Keele, Program Leader for PIRSA Rural Communities, said it was becoming increasingly important to develop leadership skills in the rural sector.

“Continuing pressure on profit margins and increased competition in major overseas markets means that our farmers must rely on their own innovation and initiative,” Ms Hylton Keele said.

“Rural communities are under increasing pressure to work with reducing resources. The more people there are in the community who have leadership skills – the more likely it is rural South Australia will prosper and become resilient. SARLP exists to encourage potential leaders to seek an active role in their communities and within the agricultural sector. Participants spend a total of six days in a rigorous program of self development. We take them through a range of activities to boost their leadership confidence, self esteem and communication skills.”

“The program teaches team work, problem solving, decision making and change management – all essential skills for leaders in the making,” she said.

SARLP is offering 20 positions this year, with FarmReady assistance available for qualifying applicants. FarmReady provides up to $1500 per financial year for eligible participants to attend approved courses.
The workshops will be held at Tiffins on the Park in Adelaide from October 26-29 and November 15-16.

Applications close on September 24. For application forms and more information visit www.pir.sa.gov.au/sarlp
