A lovely fantasy series for the middle years following three children who are trying to save their world.

From the author of The Grandest Bookshop in the World, Amelia Mellor, comes the second book in her new series Oceanforged. Mellor, who lives in Melbourne, is an author and teacher. Her books are well-known amongst young fantasy readers, who will be pleased book two of her new series is now published.
The Silent Island follows Cori, Tarn, and Jem as they sail to another island searching for the next piece of magical armour which will help Cori master all the powers of the Champions so she can save Aquinta. This time they are off to Mutemont, a distant island from which nobody has ever returned. Sailing in a houseboat built by Tarn, they eventually find Mutemont, but even landing is going to be extremely difficult. Surrounded by huge sea creatures determined to sink their boat, and an island with an impenetrable forest that’s seemingly deserted, the children have a lot to conquer. But through determination and working together, they might just succeed.
Mellor has successfully created another totally different population of people where danger is all around and the three children must use all their ingenuity to survive, find the next piece of armour and leave in time to continue their search. Time is running out to save the world!
Mellor has created an island with impenetrable forests, volcanoes, and caves, using her knowledge of plants, animals, paintings, and also cave expeditions. She is very interested in nature and humanity’s role in it. This is very evident throughout the book as the people on the island struggle to survive against nature … but what if they tried to survive with it? She also makes sure the animal kingdom is represented. Tarn is able to speak to animals and in doing so, Mellor has made sure their voice is heard as well.
The map of The Five Regions of Aquinta at the beginning of the book helps readers keep track of the children’s adventures and gives us an idea of where they might go next.
Fans will not have to wait long for number three in the series which will be published later this year, with books four and five following in 2027.
