COMING SOON: a floating gin cellar door is headed to Port Vincent

Dockside Port Vincent has staked its claim as a significant tourism destination for Yorke Peninsula with Flinders Gin announced for its unique, floating cellar door.

Dockside Port Vincent has staked its claim as a significant tourism destination for Yorke Peninsula with Flinders Gin announced for its unique, floating cellar door – believed to be an Australian first.

The 75-seat floating cellar door and alfresco pontoon will feature the Quorn-based distillery’s full range including gin inspired by the Flinders Ranges’ unique native foods and flavour profiles, as well as local oysters and grazing platters.

Locals and tourists flocking to the Yorke Peninsula this Easter will have the opportunity to get a taste of life by (and on) the sea, with Flinders Gin and oysters on offer as part of sailing tours from the $40 million Dockside Port Vincent marina development.

Brindabella, the 80-foot maxi yacht which was propelled into Australian folklore after winning the Sydney to Hobart yacht race 25 years ago, will offer sailing trips on Friday and Saturday. This could be extended to Sunday based on demand.

Construction of the floating cellar door and the development’s neighbouring nine floating homes is expected to commence in late 2023, subject to development approval, with view to opening in early 2024.

Dockside Port Vincent project director Peter Villis says the partnership with Flinders Gin is an exciting step forward and important milestone.

“By securing Flinders Gin for our floating cellar door we can ensure that Dockside becomes a catalyst for regional tourism and service operators driving economic activity in the region,” he said.

“Finders Gin is an award-winning South Australian distillery, so this is a major coup for Port Vincent and the Yorke Peninsula as a whole.

“Visitors and locals will love relaxing over the water, drink in hand, as the region’s resident dolphins and seals swim by.”

Alby Trotta of Flinders Gin says the company is proud to be bringing its distinctive artisan gins to a new audience on Yorke Peninsula and partnering with Dockside Port Vincent in such an exciting tourism development.

“This venture at Port Vincent is also part of a major expansion program this year for us after just two years and includes us expanding our heritage home-base distillery in Quorn,” he said.

The $40 million Dockside Port Vincent project will be developed by Lillis Group over three areas. In addition to the floating homes and cellar door development will include Dockside apartments, a five-

storey apartment complex complete with retail, cafes and co-working space, and eight townhouses, six of which will be waterfront properties with access to a shared pontoon.

Development approval for the Dockside apartment complex is anticipated in the coming months, and upon approval, construction is expected to commence in late 2023 with a late 2024 opening.

“Dockside will set a new benchmark for waterfront living, whether for holidaying or working remotely or as an investment opportunity,” Mr Villis said.

“We have had significant interest in the project so far, with two absolute waterfront townhouses sold and strong interest in the remaining six.

“This Easter is an opportunity to experience what life could be like at Dockside, including the rare opportunity to sail the pristine coastline of the Yorke Peninsula on Brindabella.”

Johnny Hilhorst, Owner and Director of Brindabella Sailing, says they’re excited to offer this experience on the Yorke Peninsula and hope it can become a regular occurrence.

“Guests will experience Brindabella under full sail, which is spectacular given her mast reaches 10 stories into the sky. Depending on where the wind takes us, we’ll cruise the coastline to Stansbury or Black Point.”

Tickets for the 2.5 hour morning sail are $150 per ticket or $220 per ticket for the 4 hour afternoon sail. Children aged 10 – 16 are half price and must be accompanied by an adult.
